What is the age range of the Shining Light CD and Book?
The Shining Light CD and Book has a broad listening audience as it grows with the child.
The Shining Light CD helps prenatal moms and newborn babies:
As pregnant moms feel calmed and relaxed their baby will experience these feelings also. It is well known that a baby hears what the mother hears and feels what the mother feels, so babies can enjoy this CD while they are still in the womb. Once the baby is born they begin developing their language skills. The words are spoken slowly to help little ones hear them clearly and remember the stories easily as they feel and learn the loving language blended into each verse. While listening to this CD or the stories in the book they will experience the love and worthiness that is within them.
The Shining Light CD helps young children:
As young children mature their imagination is stimulated and they imagine a Shining Light that comforts and guides them on playful inner journeys. The stories are written so children can uncover new adventures and self discoveries each time they listen. They can imagine and explore their talents and gifts confidently as they reach for their unlimited potential.

Professionals, Parents and Children
all have something
wonderful to say about
the Shining Light.

This is what professionals are saying about the Shining Light CD and Book.
Ted Kuntz, M.Ed. – Family Therapist: “Your CD is just beautiful. The Shining Light is a powerful resource, the words and music nourishes children’s minds and hearts.”
Jennifer Durkin, ECEBC – Early Childhood Education of B.C. Preschool Teacher: “It would be wonderful to see the Shining Light CD in every home.”
Donna, Vancouver Teacher: “I highly recommend the Shining Light CD. Every child would benefit tremendously by listening to it.”
Sheena Sharp, Family Education & Support Centre: “I often play the Shining light CD as background music and stories for groups of children 0 to 6 yrs. of age. It creates a peaceful mood in the child minding room. The Shining Light material is well laid out and easy to follow. I believe that this program is helpful in raising a child’s self worth and confidence in a fun and natural way.”
Julie, Family Daycare Owner: “My two year old child has been getting up in the middle of the night and wanting to play. I have put the Shining Light CD on for her and it has calmed her down and put her back to sleep. As for the daycare, I put the Shining Light CD on at quiet time. This time of the day is not only important for the children but for me too as I have to have my cup of tea and sit down in the afternoon or else I burn out. Until I started using the Shining Light CD nearly always I would have one of the children want something and I would have to get up. Now I put the Shining Light CD on and they relax and listen to it and it calms them down and they are rejuvenated when quiet time is over. I love the words, they are very meaningful and I think as we use it more they will get so much more out of it.”
Karen Cooper, M.S. Licensed Mental Health Counselor: “The time has come for parents, educators, and all adults who are in relationship to children to be much more proactive in helping these wonderful little beings to listen to and affirm their innate wisdom, creative and inner resourcefulness. Lynne’s Shining Light CD, Book and Lesson Plans for Parents and Teachers helps to promote the very qualities and positive self-regard that inoculates children against stress. We know that children who grow up experiencing validation and skills that self-soothe, are better prepared to negotiate life’s rocky moments; and they are much more likely to avoid drugs and other ways of becoming side tracked on their way to adulthood.”
This is what parents are saying about the Shining Light CD and Book.
Tara provided this comment: “With a baby and three year old son the evenings are the worst pressure point of the day. By the time we have back to back baths and I get the kids to bed I feel so stressed out. I sit down, relax and nurse the baby, so we can all listen to the Shining Light CD together. It really works for us. My whole body relaxes! It is perfect for us.”
Leslie enjoys more kindness: “My six year old daughter is very active and it was a challenge to get her to sit down and listen to what I say. The Shining Light CD is a signal for calm, a transition time for both of us. We tend to argue less and don’t get disappointed as much. We haven’t been into sparks compared to six months or even two months ago. We are speaking with much more kindness to each other.”
This is what children are saying about the Shining Light CD and Book.
Lesley & Taylor commented:
♥ “I love the CD – It is so great.”
♥ “It is so wonderful.”
♥ “I can’t wait to go to sleep.”
♥ “Can we listen to it again?”

Kelsey breathes and breathes and says: “I love the Breathing Free Story.”
Curtis said: ”Look Mom I can breathe in and I can breathe out.” He was so excited showing his Mom how he could breathe deeply.
The Shining Light touches the hearts and minds of babies and young children.
The Shining Light is a proactive, skill building program. Relationships with children begin as early as prenatal and grow with the child. As babies and young children listen to the stories they are learning positive personal and social development skills to help prepare them for the daily choices they will make in their lives.
During a child’s first five to seven years of life, babies and young children are developing their mind, body and spirit. These early years are filled with many first time experiences. Many experiences take great courage to accomplish, as babies begin walking they fall and get up again until they are successful. Consistently encouraging babies and young children helps support them to grow up feeling accepted, loved, safe, nurtured and responsible. These feelings assist them to experience a life filled with inner confidence.
The Shining Light stories offer babies and young children calm nurturing experiences and an opportunity for inner connection. As they choose to believe and feel a sense of belonging, and an appreciation for their own and others uniqueness, they will reflect these feelings and beliefs towards others.
The Shining Light encourages children to believe and feel the following statements about themselves.
I accept my unique self
I am precious and lovable
I accept myself and others
I listen to understand myself
I have abilities and strengths
I am patient with myself and others
As children are inspired to love and accept who they are they feel self assured and are more secure in themselves. These feelings offer them extra resiliency to manage changes and challenges more easily. How children feel about themselves during their early developmental years will greatly influence how they behave in society in later years.
Respect and harmony is reached when friends can appreciate each others’ many differences while enjoying their gifts and talents. Friendships are like colors. Everyone offers uniqueness, adding spice and joy to life in our diverse, but connected world.
Leslie provided this feedback: “The Shining Light helps us get back to the basics. The happiness of just being with our little ones, kind of learning like them, seeing like them, feeling like them. Never letting us forget the time when we first held them in our arms. That excitement, sometimes, somehow, fades away as we get caught up in our “busy” world again, but the Shining Light takes us to the next level, witnessing the joy and excitement of giving knowledge to our kids firsthand, and leaving imprints on them that they will carry into the future. The Shining Light provides tools for cultivating the minds and hearts, even souls, of our own kids. Every effort, every element is simple, basic and warms our heart. If we could start with this kind of communicating with our self, our families and our communities, every one of us would never have to worry about going to bed at night. The warmth of a hug is most certainly reassuring.”

Tell me more about children learning through repetition and how the Shining Light CD helps to calm their emotions.
Babies and young children learn through repetition the more they listen to the simple self discovery stories the more they will begin to recognize their own and others worthiness. As they choose to see themselves from a positive light they will display more positive attitudes and behaviors.
When children realize they always have a choice as to what they focus on, it becomes a very empowering awareness. The more children think about the things that bring about happy feelings, the more these feelings will appear in their life. Whatever they focus upon will grow.
It is also important to acknowledge and validate all feelings. The simple Breathing Free story encourages children to practice taking a few deep breaths so they can experience calm, relaxing feelings within their body.
When children feel emotional or experience challenges, each deep breath will help them to think more clearly, while offering them an opportunity to see their situation differently and make new choices. These skills will help children throughout their entire lives.
Angela has noticed that: “Kaija, my four year old, has been a lot better with her two and a half year old sister since the Shining Light has come into our home.”
Carrie felt calmness: “Brendan is five and was having a temper tantrum. He seemed frustrated because he couldn’t figure out the toy he was playing with. I had the Shining Light CD on at the time. I felt calm and went over to Brendan, took him by the hand and softly asked if he wanted to come and sit with me on the couch. We sat down on the couch together. I talked with him quietly and we listened to the Shining Light CD together. He got up when he was ready to carry on playing.”
Joanne reflected that: “One day my seven year old son was extremely agitated, shaking and incapable of calming down. I put on the Shining Light CD and we listened for awhile. At first he didn’t want to but after a few of the stories, he softened up and cozied up into my arms. He was then relaxed and capable of talking about the situation. It was fantastic!”
Kelly says: “Most evenings I read Laurence a story and sometimes he’s still fooling around and not sleeping. He resists going to sleep, then I put on the Shining Light CD and it calms him down. We listen to it every night! Laurence frequently repeats the positive words on the Shining Light CD. He starts talking quiet – more soothing to me in a tiny little quiet voice. He really likes the Shining Star Story.”

This is how the Shining Light works!
Donna’s family time: “As my husband and I listen to the Shining Light CD with our daughter, it relaxes us and sets a wonderful tone for the rest of our evening.”
Kelly has this to say: “I love the positive words and feelings. I go to bed right after I listen to it. It brings tears to my eyes. I get so tearful and sometimes I go to bed feeling like a little girl inside. A lot is happening in my life and in my new situation and it’s going to be OK, I say to myself, I love myself – even when I don’t believe it. I really like the Shining Light CD. I will keep it for years to come.”
This is how the Shining Light works! How does the Shining Light benefit children when they are sleeping or awake?
Scientists have determined that the human mind is always “turned on” even when we are sleeping and dreaming we can still hear whatever is within our environment. Children can therefore listen to the Shining Light CD anytime, when they are awake or asleep. Either way they will receive the calm, nurturing benefits.
We have all experienced at some time in our lives reading something or hearing something, last thing at night and it appears in our dreams. We’ve heard a song first thing in the morning and we remember it throughout the whole day. It’s like we can’t get the song out of our mind. That’s because what we hear last thing at night and first thing in the morning is remembered and repeated throughout the night and day.
For this reason parents are encouraged to set up a nurturing routine for their children every night. The Shining Light CD offers a wonderful addition to any bedtime routine. Children can relax and fall asleep listening to encouraging stories as they create sweet dreams for themselves.
When children wake up early in the morning, you can put on the Shining Light CD and have them listen to it while they are beginning to wake up. The calm, nurturing feelings and positive stories will set a wonderful tone for the day.
Leslie notices the calming effect: “Lukas one and a half is still very young but has been listening to the Shining Light CD for several months. I play it for him during the day and it is very good to end the day with it, as it calms and relaxes him at sleep time.”
Donna has more time: “The Shining Light CD has significantly reduced the time before our nine year old falls asleep. It is minutes apposed to hours! She is a very imaginative girl who thinks of things lurking in the dark. The Shining Light CD has allowed her to relax and let go of her fears and give into the night while slipping beautifully into sleep. She is now able to settle her thoughts of anxiety and replace them with calm, loving thoughts. It has been a marvel to see the effect the soothing, calming, and positive impact the Shining Light CD has had on her life.
I thought the Shining Light CD might be too young for her when I first listened to it. However, this is not true! It is just exactly what she needed. In fact my twelve year old son who is a real cool grade seven student listens to the CD when he finds he cannot sleep. Our daughter will be sleeping and he will sneak into her room, take the CD, and slip it into his system.”
This is how the Shining Light works!
Sandra says: “I play the CD at bedtime for my son who is eight. He may have had a difficult day at school or evening or maybe has a hard time going to sleep. He also enjoys the calming voice and feels good when he hears the words. I love knowing that he is growing and taking in loving, encouraging messages. He so desperately needs that now.”
Carolyn sees cooperation: “I put the Shining Light CD on for my boys who are four and five years old. Their two friends who are three and six were visiting and I noticed as a group they were calm and played more cooperatively when the Shining Light CD was playing in the background.”
Why are the words on the Shining Light CD written in rhyme?
The words are written in rhyme to stimulate the right side of the brain and to help children remember what they are hearing easily. This is similar to singing the alphabet rather than learning it letter by letter.
Angela says: “After only a few times listening, my child is already remembering many of the stories by heart.”
How does the Shining Light stimulate the imagination?
Scientists have also determined that the mind does not know the difference between something real or imagined. Therefore when a child imagines something, the feelings they have are the same as if they had actually experienced it.
Beverly watched her children imagining and become calmer: “When I played the Shining Light CD for the first time, I watched my children transform into a calmer, gentle and loving mood. With constant smiles on their faces they danced to the music. When calm, they laid still and watched imaginary figures in the sky. They were playing the violin, hugging themselves, touching the sky, dancing butterfly dances, and hip pity hopping around.
We play the Shining Light CD often and I always look forward to the gentle loving nature of my daughters when it’s playing.”
Tara uses the Shining Light CD as a traveling companion: “Travis likes it. I take it into the van with me so the children are calm and I can concentrate on my driving.”
How does the Shining Light CD and Book help children manifest their wishes and dreams?
Napoleon Hill said “whatever you conceive and believe you can achieve.” We can learn by listening to people who have attained their dreams. For example, astronauts have personally talked about their childhood rooms being filled with pictures of planets and space. They remember all the fun they had dreaming about their space adventures. As adults they followed their dreams and become astronauts.
Each time children listen to the Shining Light CD they are reminded to dream their dreams. Parents can focus upon encouraging their children to reach for their dreams as their children express their authentic self. Children will discover their many talents and abilities which ultimately can open up unlimited possibilities to them.
Parents and children may be surprised when dreams appear before their eyes!
Leslie noted this about her daughter: “Erika is a very creative child and has an active imagination. She imagines and plays “pretend”. She’ll put on a show. She’ll say “I want to be a Ballet Dancer” and she’ll start dancing around the room reciting the words on the Shining Light CD. She is enjoying herself very much. I see this as a positive way for her to have fun and build confidence in herself.”
Claire commented: “Hannah is absolutely thrilled with the Shining Light CD, especially the Sand Castle Dreams story. Hannah put on her dancing clothes as soon as I put the on the Shining Light CD.”
How does the Shining Light CD and Book help children learn to read?
Children can listen to the Shining Light CD and follow along in the Shining Light Book. Children can also practice their printing and reading skills by printing out the stories and then reading them after they are printed.
Leslie provided this feedback: “Erika simply “loves” the Shining Light CD. She has listened to the CD so often that she knows every story and can recite almost every line as she plays the music. She is just learning to write and I have seen her write out the words and then read them back to herself. This is an excellent way for her to enhance her writing skills and experience positive messages as she reads and then writes the stories.”
How can teachers and parents use the Shining Light CD?
♥ The Shining Light CD sets a calm, relaxing, positive tone for the day, especially the Morning Sun Story. Teachers can have the Shining Light CD on in the background as children are coming in from outside. Parents can have the CD on first thing in the morning to set the tone for the day.

♥ If you notice the class getting restless, put the Shining Light CD on in the background for the children to listen to. The calming effect will help to ground them and get them back on track. Parents can do this anytime.

♥ If you have a child who is misbehaving, give them some ear phones and have them listen to the Shining Light CD for five minutes by themselves. Watch to see their behavior change.

♥ The Breathing Free story was specifically placed at the beginning of the CD for easy access. Breathing is the most effective anger/stress management skill we can teach children. Encourage them through your modeling to take deep breaths to calm down. This gives them an opportunity to think more clearly and so they can see their situation differently and make new choices.

♥ During art time, put a story on for them to listen to as they are coloring, painting, drawing. Musical Journeys on Tracks 12 – 17 offer instrumentals for the purpose of children creating their own journeys.
