Babies are love stimulators!

September 02, 2015

I recently attended a conference at UBC and the lecturer mentioned the following quote from Aristotle.  “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”  I was so excited because “Heart Education” has always helped me get back in balance.

As a parent and parent educator, I am aware that we are always modelling behavior for our babies and young children and they are constantly learning from us.  However, what I discovered as my children grew is that my children also reminded me of the many important things in life that I forgot to do because I got busy with day to day living.

What do we learn from our babies and young children? In today’s busy lifestyle how about stopping and taking a few minutes to observe a baby or young child sleeping. What do you notice?   What do you feel?  Parents in my parenting classes have used the following words:  calm, peaceful, innocent, and love to name a few.

Here’s an “Aha” moment for you.  Since you are the ones feeling, it is in you too!  That’s why I call babies “love stimulators.”  They remind us that love, peacefulness, and innocence is within us also!  What we are born with can never be taken away.  Parents have often said that certain experiences and behaviors can take away their innocence and love however for these inner qualities to reappear it is only a feeling and thought away.  Check it out for yourself!
